WHAT TO EXPECT AT PHYSICAL THERAPY:

Our therapist will complete a thorough exam in order to establish a plan of care that both you and your therapist agree will help you reach your goals.

MUSCULOSKELETAL EVALUATION: Your exam will include an assessment of your posture, muscle flexibility and strength, pelvic and lumbar symmetry, and a pelvic floor muscle exam if appropriate.

TREATMENT:

  • Manual Therapy: Hands on techniques to restore pelvic and lumbar symmetry, reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility, improve joint mobility, and address scar tissue adhesions.
  • Functional Re-training: Restore correct posture and body mechanics, correct faulty movement patterns, and correct the coordination of abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.
  • Exercise Instruction: Exercises for home to build strength, improve flexibility, improve relaxation in general or for the pelvic floor muscles, and improve bowel and bladder habits.
  • Modalities: Biofeedback to assist with exercises or relaxation training. Electrical stimulation to facilitate a pelvic floor muscle contraction or to assist with pain control.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Our goals are to treat incontinence in 3-6 visits, pregnancy or post partum pain in 3-6 visits and pelvic pain in 6-9 visits.
